So much to tell and no computer to tell it on!
My beloved MacBook Air up and went on strike on me. Out of the blue it started working at a snail’s pace. Happily the fix with a quick and cheap one but (ahem) the Apple Store might have forgotten to update my work order to fix when the repair piece came in. Took forever.
So no blogging lately, despite having a really good couple of weeks. I tried updating on my iPad which was a total pain. So I waited. And here’s the 4-1-1.
- Triathlon #2 - No latex allergy! It went VERY well! Adequate swim (which is all that my swims will ever be), great ride and run. Finished feeling very happy.
- Duathlon #2 - Awesome. Seriously awesome! I will never be in the top third with these races but my paces were - run 8:45, ride 17, run 9:15. And it was 86 degrees at the finish. Super great.
Not a big fan of running in tri shorts.
- Crewing my friend Jill in the Leadville Silver Rush 50 miler. This is a blog post of it’s own. We had an EPIC weekend for an EPIC race. I’ll put it together soon.
Not much out there but me and the road.
Ryan, Cynthia, Marcia, me, Terzah, and Melissa.
My training is so disorganized. But I am getting out there. I’m catching every open water swim I can - but I’ll be honest. I - DON’T - LIKE - IT!!! I’m pretty sure Boulder will be my last serious tri. I may hop in on one every once in a while now that I have it all figured out. But I’m really not loving this. It’s just not for me. I’m spread way too thin, this training is keeping me way too far from my family.
Eric gave me the soundest logic last weekend. He pointed out that I’m putting all this time into daily training and these training races. And all I ever do is complain. So why do it? I don’t whine like this when my focus is running. I’m much more pleasant to be around. Thanks for the firm and clear insight, I really needed that. 6 more days, honey, and this will be behind us.
However, I love the running and biking. Separate ... on separate days. Not all mashed together like some manic mess. Long runs and bikes help me smooth out the wrinkles and calm down. I really need this time. Blocks just put me on edge. They just don’t suit my personality.
But to all my Colorado peeps training for their multisport races, I’ll join you for some company on your long training runs and rides anytime you like. I just want the pressure off of me and to return running to my primary focus. Oh, and I am counting the days to mothball my freaking wetsuit. Though, I will keep swimming on my own terms. Just not in a sausage casing if I can help it.
But I may add a few bike races out there. I’m getting much stronger on my bike. Yep, I’m really loving my time on wheels more and more. But when I’m done biking I want to be done biking. When I’m done running I want to be done running. Work complete ... let’s get some pancakes ... not dash to another sport.
So there you go. Please don’t let this deter anyone interested in multisport racing. I have had fun. There have been some really cool experiences. But I’m here for the long road. That’s where I belong. I also want to convey all my greatest appreciation to my wonderful friend and tri training partner Morriah for helping me get through this. We’re almost there, buddy. Whew.
So ... my goals for The Boulder Half Ironman which is THIS Sunday.
#1 Finish, but not last
#2 Finish last
#3 Time out in my open water swim. Pack up my gear and go out for pancakes.
#4 Don’t drown
Yes, goals are good for us!
And on a completely separate mindset ... here is a multisport race that I REALLY want to do! Next year, I want to start hauling ass!!!
That’s right - Colorado’s only state sport - Pack Burro Racing!!!!
Last year I ran with a couple and their burros just running along the Highline Canal in the suburbs. I was captivated. They were so awesome. I've already found a ranch not too far away where we can rent and train with jacks and jennys ... and a few fabulous, enthusiastic running buddies who want to join the donkey train!
Let me be very clear. These dear donkeys are well loved. They do not carry the racers' gear or bodies. Tell me this doesn't look like a great, wacky adventure with unique company. I dare you!!!
